ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Fire Alarm System Mechanic under general supervision maintains, operates, repairs, and modifies moderately complex electronics and fire detection/fire suppression systems by performing the following essential functions:

  • Disassembles equipment, cleans, lubricates, and tests for mechanical or electrical effects. Repairs or replaces parts to correct functional deficiency.
  • Reassembles repaired component and tests for proper function within required specifications.
  • Disassembles malfunctioning systems; examines and tests mechanism and circuitry for defects.
  • Troubleshoots equipment in or out of system and replaces or repairs defective parts.
  • Works as a team member in the installation, repair, and maintenance of alarm and system by performing more simple and routine tasks such as identifying, checking, and connecting power and signal cables, replacing defective parts and assemblies, or monitoring system operation by following operating and testing procedures for the system and associated test equipment.
  • Identifies and reports improper operating indications via computer-based software and/or hardware systems. Inspects systems periodically and makes necessary calibration and adjustments to ensure functioning within specified standards.
  • Prepares and implements preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested. 

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required. 5 Years’ experience maintaining and operating fire detection/fire suppression systems. Must be 21 years of age to meet Fleet Management Policy requirements and hold a current valid Driver’s License. Must be able to lift to 50 pounds on a regular basis. National Institute for Certifying Engineering Technologies (NICET) – Level I/II Certification Fire Alarm Systems required. Covid vaccination (fully vaccinated) required. 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers, and staff members.
